Associate Director (Finance) – Creative Agency

A Multi award winning Creative agency – renowned throughout Europe for their impressive and thought provoking work an SME agency with circa. 50 staff in three offices – Ireland, London and the Middle East. The role reports into the CEO and works closely with the HR & Operations Director. The Associate Director role is the most senior role in finance, managing a team of two, Creating forecasting models, ensuring accounting activities comply with regulations (audit compliance), working to the CEO and Board to maintain the companies’ financial health and profitability. It is a hands on role where attention to detail, knowledge of foreign currency hedging and working with long term high value work in progress is essential.The position is relevant to a fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with a strong academic history , who has good working knowledge within the Creative / Architecture sector.

Responsible for:

Financial Management and Analysis

  • Presentation of monthly reporting pack including
  • Management accounts
  • Forecasts
  • Balance sheets
  • Job profitability analysis
  • Utilisation reports
  • Variance analysis
  • Production of adhoc reports for the Board as required
  • Monthly Cashflow forecast backed up by daily cash balance reports
  • Making recommendations and implementing foreign exchange hedging decisions for the Company

Business Partnering across the Company

  • Working with the CEO & Associate Directors of Operations and Project Management as well as the Content and Design Directors to ensure there is a full understanding of resourcing and that this aligns to the Paprika
  • Production of a global resource analysis that supports recruitment and resourcing decisions
  • Producing adhoc reports for PMs to support project requirements
  • Providing analysis for the new business team to support tenders
  • Providing the Directors (Creative and new business directors) with abbreviated financial information
  • Promoting an understanding of the relevance of good financial control within the company including the importance of timesheet and expense completion
  • New starter induction – Finance
  • Works with HR Lead on Benefits, Payroll, Invoice sign off, staff costs, recruitment forecasting and reporting.

Statutory Responsibilities and Compliance

  • Audit and statutory accounts preparation (for the 3 countries)
  • Payroll related returns and compliance
  • VAT related returns and compliance
  • Office for National Statistics Returns
  • Pension related returns and compliance

Finance Systems and Processes

  • Making improvements to systems and processes supporting the Finance function
  • Finance policies and procedures – oversee and produce.
  • Ensuring accounts system (Paprika) is being used correctly and that all new functionality is adopted and communicated
  • Awareness and use of all portals relating to HMRC/Pensions/Banking


  • Ensuring fee schedules are in place for live projects
  • Issuing all sales invoices directly to clients on a monthly basis or more often if necessary
  • Being a point of contact for clients billing enquiries
  • Communicating with clients to chase overdue sales invoices due to Company.
  • Provide reports and analysis of overdue debtors.
  • Reviewing reimbursable expenditure spent on projects and ensuring invoices are raised to the client to cover agreed costs (monthly).

Supervision and Authorisation

  • Overview of the purchase invoice and expense processing and payment cycle
  • Ensuring that correct sign off has been completed for all financial transactions
  • Online payment authorisation
  • Review of balance sheet reconciliations


  • Development and management of Management Accountant including
  • Training on more complex accounting concepts
  • Supervision of Management Accounts production
  • Seeking out and communication training and development opportunities

Your skills and experience:

  • Fully qualified Accountant ( CIMA, ACCA, ACA)
  • Ability to deliver accurate, high quality work to deadlines 
  • Preference would be a paprika user but not essential
  • Understanding of large scale long term capital productions like Architects
  • Will have headed up the Finance function of an SME agency ( Circa 50 staff)
  • An Understanding of Hedging against foreign currency fluctuations
  • Excellent excel skills 
  • Strong attention to detail 
  • Excellent organisational skills 
  • Ability to be flexible in role – working outside remit as required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
