Commercial Accountant – Part Qualified Communications Agency

Salary £35K-£45K + Study Support

Our Client is a rapidly growing Healthcare Communications Agency. This is a newly created role and will report into the qualified FM. This is a commercially focused finance role responsible for Financial project management and Revenue forecasting.

This is an exciting point in the life-cycle of the agency as they are experiencing significant growth and this is an chance to support that growth and an opportunity for personal development.

Client/project finances

Work closely with the account teams and support all aspects of project finances including;

  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of client account finances, understand the fluidity and nuances of the individual client account finances
  • Review client project budgets for accuracy providing value add insights, identify patterns and learnings from previous activities. Ensure SOWs are accurate and follow the required formats
  • Complete monthly WIP reconciliations accurately in line with tight deadlines
  • Attend and pro-actively participate meetings with client teams internally and externally.
  • Client PO Management
  • Provide professional guidance and support to the client teams
  • Process time accurately
  • Request invoices and assist in the resolution of debt collection issues
  • Train and support client teams relating to financial systems and processes, and build commercial awareness
  • MSA tracking and compliance, discount and rebate structures adhered to and support client procurement requirements
  • Oversight of project setup and admin

Revenue forecasting and recognition

  • Maintain an up-to-date and accurate rolling revenue forecast
  • Reconcile monthly revenue recognition and complete required journal postings
  • Produce monthly revenue variance analysis and supporting commentary

Tracking performance vs forecast

  • Produce traffic light reports. Highlight and help to resolve areas of concern, track patterns and support account handlers to find solutions to challenges
  • Further develop management reporting for different target audiences
  • Support profitability by reviewing actuals worked, analysing trends and suggesting any potential improvements


  • Support the effective allocation of resources by providing ad hoc assistance during the monthly resourcing process

Agency finances

  • Timely and accurate flash revenue reporting to Group with incite-full commentary
  • Liaise with Group on specific monthly client reports
  • Support (re)forecast and landing submissions
  • Support the audit process

Projects & other responsibilities

  • Other ad hoc finance tasks and analysis as required by the Commercial Director
  • Support key finance and business projects
  • Support RFI’s
  • Promote the company values at all times

People skills

  • Build effective working relationships based on trust
  • Coach and up-skill new and existing account handlers in agency finances

Individual professional development

  • Pro-actively identify and participate in learning and development opportunities
  • Seek regular feedback and pro-actively deliver feedback regarding your own development

Must haves

  • Ideally you will be part-qualified
  • Commercial finance experience is essential, covering WIP management and forecasting, in a business facing role
  • Strong communication skills. Must be able to translate financial issues into language understood by the business
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities
  • Proficient in Excel (medium to advanced) and financial systems and a keen eye for detail
  • Agency experience is essential, and healthcare comm’s agency experience would be a distinct advantage
  • A flexible problem-solving approach and positive, proactive mindset
  • Working to deadlines
  • Demonstrable experience of process implementation and improvements
  • Ability to work independently and as part of team
