Finance Assistant – SE London

Salary £28,000-£32,000 p.a.

Key Purpose of Role:  

This is an amazing opportunity to join a leading company at the cutting edge of audience entertainment.

The Finance Assistant role is a newly created position to support the Financial Controller and Finance Director. This is a highly creative environment so experience of working in such an environment is a requirement.

The business operates, as far as possible, an automated paperless system using Xero, ApprovalMax, Receipt Bank and Xero Payroll. Ideally, you will have had exposure to these systems or, if not, have an excellent aptitude for learning and adapting to new systems. This role is pivotal as it is the gateway for transactions to get into the accounts in a timely and accurate manner.

Main Duties & Responsibilities :  

Upload supplier invoices onto Xero ensuring all are coded correctly to the right projects or overhead nominal ledger account.

Bank reconciliations

Allocation of payments to correct accounts

Daily review, allocation & reconciliation of the Revolut corporate credit cards (used for project expenses by both freelancers and employees)

Ensuring all production expenses are accurately recorded including VAT recoverability

Strong communications skills needed in liaising with production teams to ensure all  information needed by finance teams is received on a timely basis (e.g. expense receipts).

Work closely with freelancers to ensure their invoices are accurate and received & posted on a timely basis

Month end – ensure all items have been posted and balance sheet accounts reconciled as required – currently month close is working day 10 (but looking to improve on this to 5 days)

Administration and updating the Xero payroll – currently 23 staff: including tax code changes, salary amends, starters, leavers etc. Review to ensure accurate. Once directors give approval, ensure payment is made. Post relevant journals – manage other admin as needed e.g. P60’s etc.

Support re VAT return – make sure all relevant VAT is recoverable – and push back to suppliers if invoices are not correct

General support to the FC and FD

The person:

Qualified AAT and/or studying for ACCA/CIMA

Experience in a similar role

Excellent communication skills

A passion for arts/theatre/film/ creative sector

Strong fundamental accounting skills and attention to detail

An outgoing and confident personality with the ability to liaise and work with colleagues of all levels

Able to organise and manage time efficiently and effectively

Strong Excel skills

Good experience of Xero

Knowledge of ApprovalMax, Receipt Bank and Xero Payroll preferred
