Financial Controller – Film – London

The Role is Either Perm or Part time
Salary c£60k + excellent benefits

 This is a truly exciting opportunity for someone looking to work in a highly entrepreneurial company within the film sector .

The role is a new roles so will be fairly fluid but is to support both the Shareholders and the rest of the business – They are looking for a Full time or part time (4 days) ideally qualified FC – commercial in outlook – a self starter – fab at excel – good at setting up process and systems and simplifying and making more efficient the processes adopted. You will be expected to be able to bring the finances of the business fully in house and support with other HR, IT, Operations and commercial matters:

 

Key responsibility

Overall Responsibility of the FC

  • Look to bring the full financial function in house –for better control
  • Pay Roll, VAT Compliance, Annual financial statements, Corporation tax return
  • Create and maintain financial and reporting systems
  • Deliver monthly management and cash flow reports
  • Assist with future forecasting and budgeting.
  • Produce meaningful revenue / partner/ management reports
  • Give confidence in current and future financial positon.

The business currently operates out of two entities. There may well amalgamate But Initially the split is:

Brand agency / film

Finance

  • Oversee set campaign budgets and track payments incoming and outgoing
  • Receive, check and log invoices.
  • Select payments for bi-monthly payment runs
  • Point of contact for any finance queries
  • Month end queries, sales in advance and reserves allocation
  • Pay Salaries, PAYE & Pensions monthly
  • Pay VAT Quarterly
  • Pay Corporation tax annually

Reporting:

  • P&L forecasting
  • Revenue vs delivery resource

Film Business

Finance:

  • Generate and Send out Box Office Reports and log on sales report
  • Generate and Send out Self-billing invoices and log on sales report
  • Receive and check invoices and log on sales report
  • Select payments for bi-monthly payment runs
  • Point of contact for any finance queries
  • Update sales report weekly with cinema returns ( Excel)
  • Report to comScore weekly
  • Chase for partner cinema returns weekly
  • Manual data input in a monthly sales report listing out all screenings within the month:   Tickets sales and Box office minus refunds / Film rights holder revenue / Cinema revenue / Screening host revenue /company revenue
  • Calculate month end reserves: invoices not received from distributors, monies received in advance, VPF fees.
  • Pay Salaries, PAYE & Pensions monthly
  • Pay VAT Quarterly
  • Pay Corporation tax annually

Reporting:

  • Weekly update of box office stats and screenings – BO / ticket sales / website analytics / top films / top screenings
  • Update Top 40 films
  • Update top 40 partner cinemas
  • Monthly update of 2019 stats dashboard: all screenings details / key figures for 2019
  • (average attendance, box office, occupancy etc) / top 10 films cinemas hosts distributorsmonthly

Accounting requirements across both entities: currently  outsourced  to be brought inhouse

  • Monthly bookkeeping (bank reconciliation)
  • VAT compliance
  • Payroll
  • Annual financial statements preparation and filing
  • Corporation tax return

Additional  requirements

  • Liaising with Company Professionals – Legal- Bank- Insurance- Accountants
  • Supporting on investor / guardian angel  meetings
  • Reviewing and improving Management Reports particularly on the revenue side ( EXCEL)
  • Support on HR ( Contracts, Support and train new Joiners)
  • Support on Contract Negotiations

Skills required:

  • Qualified accountant ( Part qualified with strong technical skills)
  • EXCEL – Intermediate/ advanced
  • Experience of working within film distribution would be very beneficial
  • excellent attention to detail
  • strong problem solving and analytical thinking
  • XERO experience ideally
  • Good Communication skills and a team player
  • Relevant experience of the above tasks
  • Use of the following programs  EXCEL, XERO, Google Docs, Umbraco would be helpful
