Head of Finance – Marketing Communications Agency

London Marketing Communications Agency Salary up to £85,000 PA

This is a great opportunity to join a great agency and to support the senior management team in its re-organisation and growth. As Head of Finance you will be reporting to the Founders and MD of the Company and managing a team of 2.

They are looking for a strong qualified FC/ HOF to oversee the day to day finance function and to support in Strategy and commercial management of the agency with the intention of gaining financial investment or a sale down the line, a quick start would be ideal – A working knowledge of Paprika is also essential.

Head of Finance Key responsibilities:

Stakeholder Management:

  • Manage relationships with shareholders, senior management team, internal commercial leads, bankers and the external audit team
  • Prepare board-level commentary on financial performance, forecasts and budgets
  • Maintain an ongoing dialogue with board members and leadership team, ensuring ongoing business and financial support

Team Management:

  • The role will be supported by a team of two; qualified Management Accountant and Finance Assistant (AR/AP)
  • Preparation of annual employee objectives and quarterly staff performance reviews
  • Oversight of all the team’s work, ensuring total accuracy and attention to detail

Corporate Governance and Control:

  • Continually review and strengthen processes and controls in line with business needs
  • Ensure the venture remains within the limitations of the Shareholder Agreement
  • Challenge expenditure and ensure the company operates as value-driven as possible
  • Oversee the production of statutory accounts and liaise with auditors
  • Prepare and submit the significant annual R&D Tax Claim, alongside the external audit team
  • Partner with legal advisers and HR on all employee related matters, such as long-term bonus schemes, pensions and payroll related issues
  • Manage and negotiate commercial contracts
  • Act as a key member of multiple committees and groups; board, weekly Leadership Team, weekly sales meeting, major projects and business steering task forces

Finance Reporting:

  • Responsible for overseeing the production of annual statutory accounts, the annual audit and advice on all accounting policies and treatment
  • Produce and manage the flow of all financial information in a clear and robust manner to the Leadership Team and to the board
  • Ensure financial records, systems and controls are maintained in accordance with UK GAAP
  • Regularly review and analyse the efficiency and performance of the cost base, ensuring value for money for our shareholders at all times
  • Ensure department heads understand their financial reports and operate within a clear framework of accountability.
  • Oversee, alongside HR, company payroll and pension scheme

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Lead and manage the company’s budgeting process and quarterly re-forecasting process and consult with the Commercial Director where necessary
  • Lead the development of the forecasting system to improve information and reporting for budget holders and Leadership Team
  • Ensure the team provide high quality, accurate and timely financial information to the business
  • Development of management KPI’s for leadership teams
  • Building and distributing performance dashboards & reports
  • Bridge the Finance, Leadership Team, sales, marketing, client-leads and shareholder teams, ensuring that management information reporting and commentary on product roadmap deliverables is clear, well understood and progressive

Head of Finance Essential skills and experience:

  • Experience of working in a senior finance position in an agency, brand consultancy or marcomms environment
  • Experience of using Paprika accounting software
  • Experience of managing multiple senior stakeholders (shareholders) is essential
  • Qualified with a recognised accounting qualification such as ACA/ACCA/CIMA and 5+ years post qualification experience
  • Experience of working with editorial and consultancy projects (and their related financial controls) would be a significant benefit
  • Strong leadership and organisational skills, ability to challenge and bring improvement
  • Experience or strong ambition for M&A experience
  • Commercial acumen with the ability to make solid commercial recommendations that aid revenue and profitable growth
