VisionFR is delighted to be working with a fabulous Public Relations consultancy in the sustainability sector in their search for an interim Finance Director to cover a 9 -12 month (approx) maternity leave. Scope to extend beyond this period dependent on incumbent plans post maternity leave.

Role Overview

The Finance Director will act as a strategic partner to the leadership team, driving financial performance and embedding strong commercial practices across the agency. This individual will oversee all financial functions, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and compliance, while also supporting the agency in becoming more commercially astute.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Strategy and Leadership

  • Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with business goals and values.
  • Lead financial planning, budgets, long-term forecasts, and cash flow management
  • Identify opportunities for revenue growth, cost savings, and operational efficiency.
  • Align financial strategies with commitment to social and environmental sustainability.

Financial Operations

  • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial reports, including P&L statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
  • Manage the agency’s accounting, billing, payroll, and tax functions.
  • Monitor key financial metrics, analyse trends, and present actionable insights.
  • Ensure proper financial controls, compliance, and risk management practices.

Business Partnering, supporting Commercial Awareness across the Agency

  • Provide training and resources to teams across the agency to build financial literacy and foster good commercial thinking.
  • Collaborate with leadership team and the wider team to improve financial decision-making and profitability across projects.
  • Support development of proposals and business cases with strong commercial analysis.
  • Work with teams to ensure pricing models and contracts align with both profitability goals and the agency values.

Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the out-sourced finance team.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and collaboration.

Compliance and Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and financial institutions.
  • Evaluate financial risks and implement mitigation strategies.

Transition to Employee Ownership

  • Assist in the smooth transition of the agency to employee ownership, ensuring all financial and operational structures are aligned with this strategic move.
  • Work with legal and financial advisors to implement the necessary changes for employee ownership models, including stock or equity options, vesting periods, and ongoing communication strategies for employees.
  • Ensure that the financial benefits of employee ownership are clearly communicated, and that all employees understand their role in the agency’s long-term success.

Qualifications and Skills

Essential Qualifications

  • Qualified ACCA, ACA, CIMA or equivalent – strong QBE with Finance/Accounting degree will be considered
  • At least 8–10 years of experience in finance, with 3–5 years in a leadership role.
  • Previous experience in a communications, marketing, or creative agency.

Key Skills

  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking abilities.
  • Proficiency in financial software and advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team-building capabilities.
